Often, there can be misconceptions about porcelain flooring and the reasons why it is the most popular paving solution on the market today.
At Porcelain Paving Direct, we get asked lots of questions about our porcelain products, so we thought we’d round up the 10 most frequently asked questions and answer them to hopefully help our customers have a better understanding of porcelain flooring.
Is porcelain paving expensive?
Porcelain has become competitively priced within the UK market. While it may seem more expensive to buy initially compared to natural stone, it’s an investment that will provide long-lasting results and requires little to no maintenance.
Our range of porcelain flooring is the best possible porcelain slabs when it comes to quality and price.
Are porcelain tiles difficult to install?
Due to the fact porcelain tiles are manufactured in a specific way, we recommend having someone with outside knowledge of the material to install your patio. However, any experienced and skilled contractor with the correct tools will be able to install our products.
Is porcelain flooring slippery?
A common misconception about porcelain slabs is that because of their shiny appearance, they are deemed slippery. All of our porcelain flooring is manufactured with an R11 anti-slip finish to meet the current British standards for paving materials.
All of our tiles have been tested and meet or exceed these standards.
Does porcelain scratch easily?
Porcelain is an extremely dense material, which means it is very hard to damage once installed and won’t scratch easily. However, we do recommend keeping a few spare tiles aside in the unlikely event that your patio does get damaged.
Porcelain is unable to be repaired once the damage is done, so keeping a few extra tiles is a good precautionary measure.
Can you cut porcelain paving?
Porcelain flooring can be easily cut but we recommend the use of a high quality diamond blade manufactured especially for porcelain.
Are porcelain slabs low maintenance?
Porcelain slabs are incredibly low maintenance. Due to their low porosity, this minimises dirt penetration into the surface. Therefore, in most normal situations they will require no more than a general clean every few months.
Can you seal porcelain flooring?
To further reduce porosity and keep maintenance to an absolute minimum, you can seal your porcelain patio. However, it doesn’t require it.
Does porcelain stain?
It is very difficult to stain porcelain flooring but it is possible. The low porosity and sealing of a porcelain patio will prevent staining in areas prone to spillages.
Do porcelain tiles fade?
Generally, porcelain paving does not fade. Due to its highly durable properties, the slabs are resistant to sunlight and adverse weather conditions.
However, over a long period of time, if your patio is exposed to constantly sunny areas or harsh weather you could expect to see some slight changes to the appearance of the slabs.
